In October 2020, with his wife Kelsey expecting their second child, Tom was diagnosed with stage IV glioblastoma, an aggressive and inoperable brain tumour. Despite this prognosis, he committed to handling it openly—sharing the news, undergoing chemo and radiation, and later receiving experimental therapy in Spain. In early 2021, scans revealed his tumour had shrunk; later that year, he described it as "stable"—a hopeful moment flagged by his signature positivity.

In September 2021, he organized a charity concert at the Royal Albert Hall—Inside My Head—where The Wanted reunited to raise funds for brain cancer research. His final performances on tour earlier in 2022 brought both fans and bandmates to tears, as Tom performed seated on stage, still radiating spirit amidst illness.

On 30 March 2022, Tom passed away peacefully at age 33, surrounded by family and friends. He was mourned as an “amazing husband,” “incredible father,” and “inspirational brother”—words echoed by his bandmates who called him their “dream team.”

Tom met actress Kelsey Hardwick in 2016; they married in 2018. Together, they had two young children—Aurelia Rose and Bodhi Thomas Paris. From their early dating days to their shared caregiving during his illness, Tom and Kelsey maintained remarkable honesty, warmth, and mutual devotion.
