Bob Saget: A Beloved American Entertainer

Bob Saget was a beloved American comedian, actor, and TV host who entertained millions of people with his comic timing and screen presence. He was best known for his role as Danny Tanner on the popular sitcom Full House as well as its sequel Fuller House. He was also the host of America’s Funniest Home Videos for eight years.

Early Life and Education

Saget was born in Philadelphia in 1956 to a Jewish family. He developed his sense of humor during his rebellious years as a student at the Conservative synagogue Temple Israel in Norfolk, Virginia. After moving back to Philadelphia, he attended Abington Senior High School. Although Saget initially wanted to become a doctor, he changed his mind once he discovered his passion for acting and decided to pursue a career in the performing arts.

Education and Start in Comedy

He graduated from Temple University’s film school where he made a documentary that won an award from the Student Academy Awards. During his time as a student, he tried his hand at being a stand-up comedian and performed at various comedy clubs in New York City.

Big Break with Full House

Bob Saget got his big break when he starred as Danny Tanner on Full House in 1987. The show was a massive success and ran for eight years. Saget’s character as the lovable, nurturing father resonated with viewers of all ages. Saget’s comedic style was best described as dark, raunchy, and sarcastic.

Host of America’s Funniest Home Videos

Saget also took on the role of the original host of America’s Funniest Home Videos in 1989. The show became a cultural phenomenon and further cemented his place as an iconic TV personality.

Television Roles and  How I Met Your Mother

Saget continued to make his mark on television with his role as the narrator, Ted Mosby, in the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, which aired from 2005 to 2014. Saget once again reprised his role as Danny Tanner in the sequel series Fuller House, which was the continuation of the original.

Personal Life and Legacy

Saget lived a very fulfilling personal life. He was married twice and had three daughters. Saget sadly passed away in 2022 at the age of 65.
