Bon Scott was an iconic figure in the world of rock music. Scott was the second lead vocalist and lyricist of the hard rock band AC/DC from 1974 until his death in 1980.
Scott was born on 9 July 1946 at Fyfe Jamieson Maternity Hospital in Forfar, Scotland, to Charles Belford “Chick” Scott and Isabelle Cunningham “Isa” Mitchell.
He was born as the second child of his parents. Scott spent his early childhood growing up in Kirriemuir, where his parents ran and managed a bakery before the family emigrated from Scotland to Australia in 1952.
Scott and his family stayed at the Melbourne suburb of Sunshine, Victoria on their arrival to Australia where he attended nearby Sunshine Primary School.
Interestingly, it was at this school he got the nickname “Bon” as a differentiator from another Ronald in the class.
Scott’s family later relocated to Fremantle, Western Australia, where he joined the associated Fremantle Scots Pipe Band, learning the drums.
Scott attended his primary education at North Fremantle Primary School. He later moved to John Curtin College of the Arts before he dropped out at the age of 15.
After he dropped out, Scott did numerous odd jobs like working as a farmhand and a cray fisherman and later as a trainee weighing-machine mechanic to survive.
Scott’s passion for music was evident in his early years. He started playing the drums and singing in various local bands in Australia.
However, Scott rose to prominence once he joined the iconic rock band AC/DC in 1974.
Scott’s raw and powerful vocals became the trademark sound of AC/DC. He was able to captivate audiences with his energetic performances which quickly made him a fan favorite.
Scott was married to Irene Thornton in 1972. Two years after the marriage, they got separated and later divorced in 1977. Scott doesn’t have any recognized kid(s) but there are rumors that he might have kids out there.
Despite his success, Scott’s life was tragically cut short in 1980 when he was found dead in his car in London at the age of 33. The official cause of death was listed as alcohol poisoning.
