Eazy-E was an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, and entrepreneur who was one of the pioneers of gangsta rap.
Eazy-E founded the rap group N.W.A., which was known for using explicit lyrics to realistically depict urban violence in rap music. He also founded Ruthless Records.
Eazy-E was born Eric Lynn Wright in Compton, California, on September 7, 1964. Wright grew up in an environment notable for its high crime rate and gang culture. He was the son of a postal worker and a grade-school administrator.
Eazy-E was a high school dropout but still received a general equivalency diploma. He later ventured into the world of drug dealing, using the money earned to support his rap dreams.
He met aspiring rappers Dr. Dre and Ice Cube and formed N.W.A. with them and other members DJ Yella and MC Ren.
The group’s debut album Straight Outta Compton was released in 1988 and became a landmark in hip-hop for its controversial lyrics.
N.W.A. disbanded after Dr. Dre and Ice Cube left the group due to creative differences.
Eazy-E also had a great solo career and dropped a bunch of albums and singles that made it onto the Billboard Hot 100. He also collaborated with other popular artists. He was known for his distinctive high-pitched voice and charismatic persona.
Eazy-E’s personal life was quite interesting. At the age of 20, he had already started having kids.
Eazy-E eventually married Tomica Woods in 1995 after they dated for four years. Unfortunately, he died 12 days after the marriage. He had two kids with his wife.
Eazy-E revealed his AIDS diagnosis in 1995, only 10 days before his untimely death at the young age of 30.
