One of the most creative individuals you would ever come across in the history of entertainment is no other person but Eric Morecamble.
Eric Morecambe was a renowned English comedian, actor, and writer. He was widely recognized for his partnership with Ernie Wise.
Together, they formed one of the most beloved and prosperous comedy duos in British history, known as Morecambe and Wise.
Born as John Eric Bartholomew in Morecambe, Lancashire on May 14, 1926. He was the son of George and Sarah Elizabeth “Sadie” (née Robinson) Bartholomew.
From a young age, Eric showed a keen interest in performing. His mother, Sadie, worked as a waitress to fund his dancing lessons.
Eric won numerous talent contests, including one in Hoylake in 1940, which led to an audition in Manchester for Jack Hylton.

It was during his time working for Jack Hylton’s revue in 1940 that he crossed paths with Ernie Wise. A friendship blossomed between them, and they soon decided to collaborate as a double act.
Although Morecambe and Wise made their television debut in 1954, it was not until the 1960s that they truly captured the hearts of the nation and gained widespread recognition.
In 1968, Morecambe and Wise joined the BBC, where they created their most iconic and highly acclaimed shows.
The dynamic duo garnered immense adoration from millions of viewers and received praise from critics. Their shows consistently achieved impressive ratings and solidified their status as entertainment legends.
Eric Morecambe was not only a brilliant comedian but also a talented actor who graced the silver screen in numerous films. Furthermore, he showcased his literary prowess by penning two novels, namely “Mr Lonely” and “Stella”.
Aside from being a comedian, Eric Morecambe was a devoted family man. He married Joan Bartlett in 1952. Together with his wife, Joan, they had three.
Tragically, Eric Morecambe’s life was cut short when he suffered a heart attack in 1984 at the age of 58.
Eric Morecambe was one of the most prominent comedians in British popular culture. He was named one of the 100 Greatest Britons in a BBC poll in 2002.
