Early Life

Leonardo da Vinci was and is still a powerful name in the art world/industry. Vinci was an Italian polymath from the High Renaissance era. He was widely regarded as one of the most accomplished painters in history.

Vinci’s artistic prowess is matched only by his contributions to various scientific, engineering, architectural, anatomical, and mathematical fields.

Born on 15 April 1452 in the Tuscan region of Italy as the illegitimate child of a wealthy Florentine notary and a peasant woman.

Vinci’s father later took custody of him shortly after his birth. While growing up, he received an informal education in painting, sculpture, and mechanics from his father’s workshop and other artists.

Leonardo grew up in his father’s home in Vinci, where he had access to scholarly texts and was exposed to the local painting tradition. It was during this time that he developed a passion for the arts and began honing his skills.

Career

At the age of 14, Leonardo started his career as an apprentice to the renowned painter Andrea del Verrocchio in Florence.

Under Verrocchio’s guidance, he learned the fundamentals of drawing, painting, sculpting, and modeling. This apprenticeship provided him with a solid foundation upon which he would build his artistic career.

Leonardo was renowned for his artistic creations, which encompass some of the most well-known paintings in the annals of art, including the Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, and The Vitruvian Man.

In addition to his prowess as a painter, he was also an exceptionally productive innovator and engineer. His mind was filled with groundbreaking ideas, leading him to design and sketch machines and contraptions that were far ahead of their time. Among his visionary concepts were flying machines, tanks, submarines, and parachutes.

Furthermore, Leonardo dedicated himself to studying the intricacies of the human body, meticulously documenting its anatomy and physiology through his detailed drawings.

Curiosity and imagination were at the core of Leonardo’s being, as he constantly strived to unravel the mysteries of nature and gain insight into the human condition.

Sadly, he passed away in 1519 at the age of 67, leaving behind a profound legacy that continues to captivate the world. Leonardo’s legacy continues to inspire and captivate people around the world, making him a frequent subject in culture and a namesake for various institutions and works.
