Liberace was born Władziu Valentino Liberace on May 16, 1919, in West Allis, Wisconsin. He was the son of musician Salvatore and Frances Zuchowski.
Liberace was a twin, but his twin died at birth, and so he grew up with his three other siblings.
At the age of three, Liberace was already playing the piano. By the time he was eight years old, he was considered a child prodigy.
Liberace went on to enjoy a successful career in the musical industry that spanned over four decades and produced some memorable classical hits.
At the early stage of his career, he started playing in music theaters and nightclubs. Interestingly, at the time, Liberace even adopted the stage name “Walter Busterkeys.”
Liberace’s limelight and breakthrough came in 1951 when he started his show titled “Liberace Show.”
During the course of his career, Liberace had the opportunity to perform with Elvis Presley on stage at one of his concerts.
He had a flamboyant personality both onstage and offstage, and he loved to put on a show for his audience.
This flamboyance came at a price as Liberace was often accused of being a homosexual, a claim he publicly denied despite being sued by Scott Thorson for palimony.
These claims didn’t affect Liberace’s musical prowess, and he released over 70 albums during his career.
Liberace was unmarried. He also lived a flamboyant lifestyle where he lavished his wealth.
He passed away in 1987 due to AIDS.
