Naya Rivera was an American actress, singer, and model who became popular due to her role as Santana Lopez on the musical comedy-drama series Glee. She was born in 1987 in Valencia, California to a Puerto Rican father and an African-American mother. She began her acting career as a small child and appeared in several commercials and television shows such as The Royal Family and Family Matters.
Rivera successfully auditioned for Glee in 2009 and was cast as Santana Lopez, a lesbian cheerleader who was romantically involved with fellow cheerleader, Brittany Pierce. She started off with a minor role in the show but her role became more prominent in the following seasons. Rivera’s portrayal of Santana, a sharp-tongue, unapologetic, and complex character struck a chord with audiences around the world. Naya Rivera had a son, Josey, with actor Ryan Dorsey, whom she married in 2014 and divorced in 2018.
In 2020, she took her son on a boat at Lake Piru in Ventura County, California. She went missing after going for a swim in the lake and her son was found alone in the boat. Her body was found and recovered from the lake after five days. The cause of death was determined to be accidental drowning.
