Queen Elizabeth II was the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth nations. Elizabeth Alexandra Mary (Queen Elizabeth II) was born on April 21, 1926, in London, England, and has reigned as Queen since February 6, 1952, when her father, King George VI, died. She is the longest-reigning Queen in British history and one of the most iconic individuals of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
Elizabeth was the daughter of Prince Albert, Duke of York, and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was the couple’s first child. Her father eventually became King George VI, and Elizabeth became the heir presumptive to the throne.
Princess Margaret was her younger sister. Elizabeth was schooled privately at home and was well-versed in history, literature, and politics. She also studied constitutional law and learnt about the monarch’s role in government. After World War II, she joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service as a mechanic and driver in 1947.
When her father died in 1952, Elizabeth became Queen at the age of 25. Her coronation took place at Westminster Abbey in London on June 2, 1953. It was a great historical event witnessed by millions of people worldwide. Queen Elizabeth saw numerous historical events, including the demise of the British Empire.

The Commonwealth, a grouping of sovereign nations that were originally a part of the British Empire, has also benefited from her contributions.
Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward are the couple’s four children. Queen Elizabeth wed Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947. Eight of their grandkids and 10 of their great-grandchildren exist. The Queen has a strong passion for racehorses and has bred many of them during her life. She is a devoted dog lover and has had several Corgis and Dorgis, a breed that is a mix between a Corgi and a Dachshund.
