Randy Savage was a professional wrestler who was known for his charismatic and flamboyant persona in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW). He was born Randall Mario Poffo in 1952 in Columbus, Ohio. He was born into a wrestling family.
Savage started his wrestling career in 1973 wrestling under the ring name The Spider but later changed it to Randy Savage. He wrestled for various territories and promotions such as International Championship Wrestling (ICW) and Continental Wrestling Association (CWA). He won several championships across these territories.
Randy Savage became a household name once he joined the WWF in 1985. He quickly became one of the most popular and influential wrestlers on the roster. He was involved in memorable feuds and matches with Hulk Hogan, Rick Steamboat, Ted DiBiase, Jake Roberts, Ric Flair, and many more. He won the WWF World Heavyweight Championship, the WWF Intercontinental Championship once, and the King of the Ring tournament in 1987. He also formed a famous on-screen and off-screen relationship with Miss Elizabeth who served as his manager and wife.
Savage left the WWF and joined WCW in 1994 where he continued to be a major star. During this time in the company, he became the WCW World Heavyweight Champion four times and was also involved in several notable storylines with Hulk Hogan, Sting, Diamond Dallas Page, Kevin Nash, and others. He also joined the infamous faction New World Order (nWo).
Savage retired from the ring in 2005 after a brief stint with Total Nonstop Action (TNA). He pursued other ventures like acting and rapping. Savage passed away in 2011 at the age of 58 after suffering a heart attack. He was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015.
