Tom Brookshier was born on December 16, 1931, in Roswell, New Mexico. He grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Brookshier attended Roswell High School. He enrolled at University of Colorado, where he served as a three-year letterman in football. Brookshier also showcased his skills as a standout defensive back at the University.
In the 1953 NFL Draft, Brookshier was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles and played for them from 1953 to 1961, except for a brief hiatus when he served in the Air Force. Throughout his time with the Eagles, he earned recognition as a two-time Pro Bowl player and contributed to the team’s 1960 NFL Championship win.
After retiring from professional football, Brookshier successfully transitioned into a broadcasting career with CBS Sports. He was among the first former players to make this leap and quickly gained fame for his witty and insightful commentary.
For many years, he partnered with Pat Summerall, forming a dynamic duo that covered numerous Super Bowls.
Sadly, Tom Brookshier passed away in 2010 at the age of 78, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in both football and broadcasting.
