Wolfgang Mozart was one of the most famous music composers to have ever lived. Wolfgang Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, in Salzburg, then part of the Holy Roman Empire.
He was the youngest and solo-surviving son of Leopold Mozart and Anna Maria, née Pertl. Born to a music composer, Mozart and his older sister were introduced to music early in life by their father.
At a young age, Mozart was capable of playing numerous musical instruments. He also started public performance at 6.
His father, Leopold Mozart, was a minor composer and an experienced teacher, who took his children, including Wolfgang, on tours to perform for royalty.
Mozart’s father was once appointed as the fourth violinist in the musical establishment of Count Leopold Anton von Firmian, the ruling Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg.
This shows that Mozart came from a lineage of music enthusiasts. From childhood, he showcased tremendous musical potential.
He learned to play the keyboard and the violin and composed his first pieces when he was five years old.
Mozart wrote more than 600 works during his lifetime and was widely regarded as one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music.
His works were admired for their melodic beauty, formal elegance, and harmonic richness. Some of his most famous works include The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, Symphony No. 41 in C Major, Symphony No. 25 in G Minor, and many more.
Mozart’s life was filled with challenges as he struggled to find a secure position and income. He worked as a court musician in Salzburg for a while, but he resigned after he felt dissatisfied with the low pay. He moved to Vienna in 1781, where he achieved fame but not fortune.
He married Constanze Weber in 1782 and had six children, but only two survived infancy.
He passed away in 1791 at the age of 35 due to an unknown illness. While his death wasn’t mourned or noticed at the time, interest in his work started to increase shortly after his death.
